Littlecote Manor HQ Co 506th PIR 1943-1944
Just a few photos from yesterday when Bez and myself went to Littlecote Manor to meet Forest Guth.
Unfortunately Forrest couldn't make the tour having just stepped off an 8 hour flight from the US, I think he was probably feeling a bit out of it, but the tour was very interesting and then visiting Aldbourne afterwards and having a pint in the Blue Boar pub was great.
Littlecote Manor House
The drive leading down to the manor house, which is on the left. It's down this lane that Jake Mc Niece and thelegendary Filthy 13 were billited.
This was the dining hall for the officers of Headquaters Company of the 506th, with Col. Sink sitting at the end of the table where the suit of armour is.
Col. Sink's Office.
The Operations Room where all the planning for the 506th's role in Normandy and Holland took place.
The last remaining Aldbourne Stable where men from the 1st and 2nd Battalion's were billited.
Maj. Winters Billet during his time in Aldbourne. His room is the top left window.
The Blue Boar Pub, the watering hole for the Officers of the 506th. This pub was off limits to the enlisted men of the regiment.

Good pics Shorty!
The last time I was there I heard that the last stable was meant to be taken down. Glad to see that it's still up.

Re: Littlecote Manor HQ Co 506th PIR 1943-1944
Thanks Sam
It's a great place to visit and next time there's a tour on we should all try and make it down there (the tours are free!), plus the Blue Boar is a top pub(and cheap!)
Bez and I both said it was ashame they moved the stables from Aldbourne but at least one is still preserved in this country near to it's original home, and Littlecote has massive connections with the 101st and the 506th! And as for the others at least they are now indoors in a museum dedicated to the Airborne, and no chavvy little scrote will vandilise them or try and burn them down!

Will do mate. It'd be great if we could go down there as a group next time and have a look around.
