Hi All,

Just posting a few pictures of one of the busiest days of my life. A morning of work in Maastricht in Holland under midday, followed by trying to cram battlefield sites from Holland and Belgium into one day! We didn't do too badly, and managed to visit quite a few places.

The first place we visited was Margraten Military Cemetery in Holland, which is literally just 6/7km outside of Maastricht where we were staying. Maastricht is in the far bottom right corner of Holland tucked ...

Hi Guys,

Now i dont know how long this will stay up for, because Jon is due to be doing some updates to the forum, and we may lose this one, but it'll be for good reason.

Myself and Jon feel as though we have hit dead ends in this hobby. Both of us are sick of the politics within groups and the Hobby in general and also feel we've now both reached the point where we're able to do something about this, and not sit back and just put up with other peoples bollocks, and i'm sure others ...

The plan is to make an order with At The Front for our jumpsuits as soon as possible, preferably within the next month or so. So if you're interested add you name to this list and when we're ready we'll order.

**The reason we order from At The Front is because they're plain and simply as close to Original as you will get. The Colour is spot on, the stitching and build quality is second to none and most importantly the trousers pockets are SQUARE. Most manaufactuers of the ...

Hi All,

The reason a 2nd Pattern Griswold was made was because the fastenings on the 1st Pattern were poor and the bag had a tendency to rip open on a jump and throw the rifle out, but the 517th were issued these on Bulk ready for their drop into Southern France. They were handed over to their riggers who added 3 straps with lift the dot snaps on to securely fasten the bags shut and the problem was solved. To buy reproduction 1st pattern Griswolds would be easy, but like most things with ...

Hi All,

Me and Jon were discussing the idea of coming up to mine for a photoshoot on January 31st the day before we hit Stoneleigh. First of all, it'd be good to bang a few uniforms together to get some good photos of the different periods, so we need to try and decide who's going to do what.

What i was going to suggest was to try and portray the Unit through all stages of its existence. This means training periods (Standard M42's, Jumpboots, 17th Airborne SSI, Plain M2, Jon?), Combat ...

Just a quick post to say welcome all to this new group.

It was formed by Me and Jon pretty much due to the fact that we're not only sick and tired of doing displays that have been done a million times, but to do a unit that deserves recognition just as much as any other.

The combat record for the 517th speaks for itself, to this day it's fitness records have not been beaten by any other US Unit, it performed with distinction in Combat getting itself a well deserved reputation ...

I think Shorty said he is next free in March and I know Mark will be up at that time so when we get nearer the time I will propse dates.

I have loads of room if anyone wants to have a few beers and crash. There's loads of takaways round the corner and a number of pubs within 5-10min walk so we don't have to stay in.

What does everyone think?

As all know, the 517th were issued with standard M1 Infantry pots prior to landing in Italy in 1944, so before making their first combat jump in August '44 as part of dragoon they had to be Rigger modified to work as Airborne helmets.

Hi All,

So, with it being decided that as a group we might be better off doing a bulge impression first for the 517th group, here is a few basics.

A) Jumpsuits gone. First of all, if you look at the photos in De Trez's book you will notice that as time goes by Jumpsuits slowly disappear and M-43s start to creep in a lot more. The unit received no re-issue of Jumpsuits at any point and when they got knackered the soldiers were often lead to make modifications to uniforms or raid their ...

Right guys, Bez and I are putting together a trip to Normandy in mid August.

It'll be 2 days travelling and three days in Normandy itself, so 5 days in all. We are looking to leave on a Thursday so we can enjoy Friday Saturday and Sunday there and get back late on the Monday.

There will be 5 places in my car, so with Bez and I that leaves 3 places left up for grabs. If I could take more I would but short of someone going in the boot it'd be tricky!

We are looking at camping ...

Hi Guys,

For the first event, most of you i've spoken to say it would probably be best for us to hit hard with a Dragoon impression. Kit all over the place (But in an Authentic way ), camouflage, and unauthorized kit.

Been reading the 517th History to try and get a better idea of squad structures. Basically, they only had 2 squads per platoon as opposed to 3 up until November when they finally received enough replacements to give each company an extra squad per platoon, increasing ...

Just a few photos from yesterday when Bez and myself went to Littlecote Manor to meet Forest Guth.

Unfortunately Forrest couldn't make the tour having just stepped off an 8 hour flight from the US, I think he was probably feeling a bit out of it, but the tour was very interesting and then visiting Aldbourne afterwards and having a pint in the Blue Boar pub was great.

Hi Guys,

We need to do a little forward planning with future events. I know that most of us are committed to other events with other groups and it appears obvious to me that only a few displays will be held by the group this year before the show season ends, simply because it may take so long for us to get on our feet. So discuss here potential events, not only for this year but for the group in general, whatever year, and hopefully we can compile a list of the ones to go for.

I personally ...
